Cameroon commonly referred to as “Africa in miniature” for its geographical diversity and cultural vibrancy; provides fertile grounds for productive agricultural activities. Cameroon lies on the Gulf of Guinea, with Nigeria to the northwest and Equatorial Guinea and Gabon to the south.
1.1 Tomato production in Cameroon
Tomato production in Cameroon is estimated at 877,937 tons, with an accompanying yield of 12,286kg/ha. A bulk of its production comes from the southwest region. Nevertheless, this is much lower than the mean world (33,988kg/ha). Such low yield is due to the inefficient production level of farmers.
Cameroon faces a multitude of threats to the food security of millions of its citizens. A staggering 2.6 million people in Cameroon are facing phase three (crisis) food insecurity, leading to severe malnutrition, and stunting for vulnerable children. To provide an answer to these issues, COMPANY XX is engaging in Tomato Production and Processing to provide food and employment to the affected population. Tomatoes are a major component of most staple food in West and Central Africa, the Caribbean islands, Central America, and northern South America.
In our first 3 years of farming, we will focus on Tomato farming and processing to maximize profit. Plantation farming has been proven to be one of the most lucrative businesses for an agriculture entrepreneur. There are several tomato plantations scattered all around Africa, South America, and coastal states in Cameroon. This is so because tomato easily grows and thrives well in most areas. Tomatoes are a major dietary source of vitamins for millions of people.
Agriculture is vital to the economy of Cameroon and employs half of the workforce. Throughout Cameroon.
COMPANY XX Intends to increase the production of food crops and the employment of Cameroonians to eradicate food insecurity and unemployment. Experts reveal that barely 30% of the opportunities presented by agricultural production are exploited, allowing us to benefit from extending the exploitation of tomatoes and other agricultural products.
